I Love TV !

I do love TV.  Television.  But I do have a problem.

I rent the downstairs of a house in the mountains of extreme western Massachusetts.

There is no cable.  I don’t think that there is any cable to any of the houses up on that mountain road.  There are only 6 houses and I’m the only person who is up there all year long.  Summer homes and such.  I don’t really know who any of my neighbors are.  It’s not because I’m anti social or unlikable or frighteningly ugly. I am most of those things but that’s not why I don’t know the neighbors.  It’s because I work during the day and so I don’t see them.  They are retired or rich or something so they are out to dinner, or at the theatre or something during the evenings.   I’ve hardly ever even passed a car on the one lane road leading up the mountain.  Really, in over 10 years, I’ve hardly seen movement.

No movement by humans.  I see turkey and deer – frequently.  Along with birds and squirrels and such.  Occasionally a snake.  And twice I’ve seen a bear.  I’ve seen another animal or two.  One I’m pretty sure was a fox.  Most certain that I’ve seen raccoons.

What?  Oh, TV.  Right cause that’s what I really care about.  Not little forest creatures.

So, with this whole HD conversion thing – my television watching has been greatly reduced.  Instead of the three major networks I now only get two.  I did get the converter box and I got an even more powerful antenna.  Still only get two.  So I don’t get to watch NCIS or CSI or Criminal Minds or Amazing Race or Survivor or the Mentalist (I never liked David Caruso so not being able to see CSI Miami isn’t something I mourn at all).

There’s a part two to my diminished TV watching.  I haven’t quite figured out how to tape one channel while I’m watching another channel.  I’m sure people know how to do it.  I used to know how to do it – but since the HD conversion thing, I haven’t been able to make it work.

So many obstacles to overcome when what I’m really most interested in is FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. It is a great show.  Here’s a 2009 cast photo that was recently sent to us.

Did somebody die ?

Did somebody die ?

Needless to say, I can’t watch the initial airings of Friday Night Lights – I have to wait till they are re-run on NBC.  Nice that Direct TVand NBC were able to work out a cost sharing deal to keep this show alive.  It really is ‘the best show you’re not watching’ even if TV Guide didn’t actually bestow that honor on it.

Connie Britton is amazing and I’ve always loved Kyle Chandler.  You can see current episodes on The 101 Network on Direct TV.

I want to go to Dillon, TX.

If you go to Dillon, I am coming with you. To think, I have to wait until next summer to see my Timmy Riggins is heartbreaking. I can’t take it. I don’t have Direct TV. Life is unfair.
