This is Art Star here first (and then Toaster Poster will take over tomorrow) but I just wanted to do a proper introduction here.  Handyman and I both work here at Blue Q.  So who the heck is Toaster Poster?  Well, she emailed me one day about product ideas and I loved her.

Here’s how the email went:

Dear Webbo,
 
After scouring your site for an excrutiatingly long four minutes, I’ve determined that you are trying to keep riff-raff such as myself at arm’s length. What you didn’t anticipate is that I have the wingspan of an albatross and can outreach you any day. So here I am attempting a gentle “reach around” (if I had a nickel…) and hoping to learn if and how you might address product ideas. It’s earthy-friendly and cheeky and I’d make it myself but I’m too busy spending most of my day tugging my sleeves down.

Here’s a follow up email titled: “Let me start with a mild rant….”:

I hate Yankee Candles.

I just think they’re ridiculous.

Greek Fig…Canary Island Banana…Ocean Water…whose house actually smells like that? And who thinks having your house smell like a fig or a perpetual apple pie is a good idea?

The truth is houses smell. They smell like you live there.  Sometimes that’s good, sometimes that’s bad.

I think that we should embrace our house smells, especially the bad ones.

And what better way to do it than by a series of jarred candles that capture the scents that make a house a home?

Scents like:

 
Lingering Litter Box
 
Nuance of Nasty Sneakers
 
Fridge Mystery

Wet Dog Wonder
 
Mouse in the Wall

Lasting Low Tide
Display it proudly so that people know that yes, dammit, my house is supposed to smell like this.

In actuality, I’d make the candles unscented but labeled ala Yankee to capture the essence of the idea.
